A little over a month ago as I wrote in a previous post I signed up with GameFly. For those of you that missed it GameFly is a video game rental program, you pay a flat monthly fee and get an unlimited number of games mailed to you. Basically it’s Netflix but for video games.

I started out with GameFly’s 10 day free trial, honestly I really wasn’t interested in dropping any cash on a service I hadn’t tried first. The free trial lets you have 2 games out at once, so I rented Halo OSDT and Gran Turismo 5 to start out (both great games by the way). Apparently the estimated delivery times for games is 3-5 days, I live in and it took around 2-3 days for teh games to get mailed to me. Your mileage may vary.

I finished Gran Turismo and Halo ODST in about a week and mailed them back to get two new games. At this point I took a look through GameFly’s selection of games and was pleasantly surprised. Just about any new game you could want they have available for rent, hey I did manage to get Halo ODST so that says something. What really impressed me wasn’t having new games available, but the number of platforms they had games for. Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Wii, Gamecube. PSP, Nintendo DS you name it they had it.

I returned and rented a total of around 4 games in the free trial period. At this point I did a little math to see if GameFly was worth it. Buying 4 games at $50 would cost me 4 x 50 = $200. Renting them from GameFly cost me $0, zilch, nada.
